The mission of the Spirit Lake Public Library is to provide and organize quality materials and services which fulfill educational, cultural, and recreational needs of the entire community in an atmosphere that is welcoming, respectful and businesslike.
To accomplish this mission, the general library goals of the Spirit Lake Public Library shall be:

- To serve all residents of the community and surrounding region
- To maintain a high degree of accuracy in records and information
- To acquire the means to provide the most frequently requested material locally and upon demand
- To acquire and make available to all patrons such books, periodicals, pamphlets, and other services as will address their needs to:
- To work cooperatively with other county agencies, other city agencies, and organizations in any movement for the public welfare.
- To strive consistently to discover new methods and improvements for better service for the library's customers.
- To offer a high degree of attractiveness of the library and its staff, attained through neatness, order and systematic arrangement.
- To carefully observe professional ethics in relations between board and administration, staff and administration, staff members among themselves.
- To review regularly these goals and, if necessary, revise them in the light of new developments.
